Singing Day & Celebration Concert with John Rutter
July 18th 2019
John Rutter was born in 1945 in London and studied Music at Clare College of Cambridge.
His world famous compositional masterpieces are a mixture of works for choirs, orchestras and chamber music. Rutter’s choral works, for instance “Reqiuem” and “Gloria”, are performed across the world. In 2003, the premiere of his “Mass for Children” took place in Carnegie Hall in New York. For the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth ||., he composed a musical version of psalm 150, which was premiered in St Paul’s Cathedral of London. He also works as a coeditor of collections of choral music (e.g. Carols for Choirs, Oxford Choral Classis). From 1975 to 1979 he was the Director of Music of Clare's College. Rutter is the founder of the “Cambridge Singers” with whom he recorded a large number of his choral works.
Since 1979 he has been dividing his time between composing and conducting. As guest conductor and lecturer he is touring worldwide.
His music is released by Oxford University Press and various labels, namely Universal, Naxos, Hyperion and Collegium Records (Cambridge Singers).
On July 18th 2019, John Rutter will receive the Award of European Sacred Music in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
